Want something that actually gets people talking on the first tee? These five are the ones I keep sending people to first. Good fabric, good fit, and each one has a personality of its own.
Golf dress codes used to mean plain white polos and khakis that made everyone look like they worked at the same bank. Nobody misses that. These days you walk onto a course and see hot dogs, pineapples, neon palm trees, and tie-dye. The game got a lot more fun to look at.
I've been helping guys find gear for a long time and the polo question comes up constantly, especially around Father's Day, birthdays, and retirement rounds. These are the ones I keep recommending because they're actually good shirts, not just novelty pieces that fall apart after one wash.

These are the ones that feel like a vacation every time you pull them out of the bag. Good for warm weather rounds, good for guys who just want to look like they're having more fun than everyone else at the course.
My buddy bought this for a trip to Hilton Head and got three compliments before he finished the front nine. The pineapple print is cheerful without being loud, and the fabric is the kind of soft you notice the second you pull it on. UPF 50+ means it's actually doing something useful in the sun, not just a label. Runs true to size but go up one if you like a little more room in the shoulders.
The price on this one surprises people every time. It feels like a $50 shirt. Light, breezy, moves well, and the pink palm design works at a Saturday morning round just as much as a Friday scramble. A customer in his late 50s told me his son stole it out of his bag. That's a good sign. Sizes go up to 3XL, machine washable, no special treatment needed.
Shop Pink Palms PoloSurfboards and beach vibes right there on your polo. The fabric handles sweat well and the stretch is good enough that you forget you're wearing a polo by the third hole. I gave this to my brother-in-law who owns about 40 plain navy polos. He texts me a photo every single time he wears it now, which is basically the review I needed.
Dark background with neon palms is a combination that shouldn't work and absolutely does. It photographs really well, which matters when your group posts round photos, and the antimicrobial fabric is the real deal on a hot course. Comes in sizes up to 3XL. "The Palmer" is a name it earned.
Shop Neon Palm Tree Golf PoloNamed after one of the best stretches of beach in Maui, and it lives up to it. The print has that resort-wear quality where it looks intentional and put together rather than tropical for the sake of it. UPF 50+, 4-way stretch, all the performance specs are there. Pair it with white shorts and you look like you've played every good course in Hawaii.
Shop Kaanapali PoloThe name says it all. This is the shirt you throw on when it's 87 degrees and you have a 10am tee time and you do not want to think too hard about it. Lightweight polyester-spandex blend, athletic fit, machine wash cold. One customer told me it was the first time in his life he didn't sweat through a polo by hole 7. That's the bar and this one clears it.
Shop Breezy PoloFor the golfer who grew up watching John Daly and thought the outfits were the best part. These are the polos that make people stop and look twice before asking where you got it.
The azalea flower pattern is one of those things where you can't quite explain why it works, but it does. Retro without looking like a costume. Athletic fit keeps it sharp and the fabric is soft enough that guys who hate polos forget they're wearing one. We sell a lot of these to wives shopping for husbands and the feedback is always strong.
The classic edition of the All That Retro with radios, skateboards, and shoes worked into the design. If you want to feel like you raided the closet of someone cool from 1993, this is the one. Bold colors, quality materials, comes in sizes for everyone. The kind of shirt where people at the turn ask about it while you're still eating your hot dog.
Shop All That Retro Classic EditionTie dye on a golf polo used to be a controversial choice. Now it's just called having good taste. The color bursts on this version are bright and fun without bleeding into each other in a messy way. Lightweight, flexible fit, perfect for players who treat the course like their personal runway. Go with your normal size and let the shirt handle the rest.
Shop All That Retro Tie DyeIf you played video games in the 80s or had a bedroom poster with neon grids and sunsets, this shirt is going to feel like coming home. The colors are loud and the geometry is completely intentional. Anti-odor, moisture-wicking, wrinkle-resistant. I've had guys in their 50s tell me this was the first polo they'd bought for themselves in a decade.
Shop Vaporwave Golf PoloThis one hits a very specific memory for a lot of guys. The bold colors and patterns look like something out of a 1993 pro-shop catalog and everyone over 40 has a story about a shirt like this. Good soft fabric, relaxed fit, holds its print after a whole season of washes. Great birthday pick for someone who grew up watching golf in the 90s.
Shop Golf 90s Men's PoloIf you've seen "I Think You Should Leave" on Netflix you already know exactly who this is for. If you haven't, the intricate pattern still works as just a really interesting polo. Either way someone in your group is going to recognize it and you'll spend four holes explaining the sketch to everyone else. Honestly that's a good four holes.
White polos are a classic but this isn't your regular white polo. The all-over speckle print looks different depending on the light and the distance. Clean and sharp from across the fairway but with real character up close. Stretchy enough that it moves with you and light enough to wear in July without feeling like you're melting.
Shop Cosmic Sprinkle White PoloSame idea as the white version but with a completely different feel. Multi-color speckles on black look almost like a galaxy print if you squint, or just like a really well-designed polo if you don't. Pairs with literally anything. I wear it with black pants in the fall and white shorts in summer and both work. The 4-way stretch is real and noticeable.
Shop Cosmic Sprinkle Black PoloCheckered flags and golf feel like they have no business together and this polo makes the case otherwise. Race-day energy without being loud or silly about it. The bold pattern carries the whole look so you can keep the shorts plain and still be the most interesting guy at the turn. Performance stretch handles the swing fine.
Shop Black and White Checker PoloThere's a version of this polo that's been in every good pro shop since the 1970s and this one captures that feeling without being a knockoff of anything. Faded horizontal stripes, relaxed enough to wear after the round without changing, comfortable through a full summer of use. A smart pick for the guy who loves classic golf style but wants something with a bit more character.
Shop Old Stripes PoloLofty Llama makes premium stuff and the price reflects that. The pixel pattern in bright colors looks better in person than in photos, which is saying something. Full 4-way stretch polyester, anti-odor, moisture-wicking. Great for a gamer who golfs or just anyone who loves a modern geometric print. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.
Shop Pixel Pattern Golf PoloAnother strong one from Lofty Llama. The transfusion name is a nod to the golf cocktail and everything about this polo leans into that energy. Slim fit, 90s-inspired colorway, all the technical performance fabric you'd expect. I've had guys tell me this is the only shirt they pack for golf trips because it goes with everything else in the bag.
Shop Retrofusion Slim PoloThe most visually striking polo on this entire list. The tribal pattern is genuinely detailed in a way where you keep noticing new things the longer you look at it. This is Lofty Llama's premium build, full 4-way stretch, anti-odor, moisture-wicking. The price is higher but the quality justifies it. One of those shirts you keep for years rather than rotating out after a season.
Animal print on a golf polo is one of those things that takes a certain kind of confidence and Byrd Gang pulled it off. The yellow base makes the leopard spots pop in a way that straight-up commands attention on the first tee. 88% polyester and 12% spandex means it moves with you and doesn't feel like you're wearing a costume. Good pick for the guy who golfs and also has a personality.
Shop Leopard - Yellow PoloByrd Gang's Wild Spots is what happens when you take an animal print and dial the color palette back a bit. The spots feel more artful than loud, which means you can wear this at a wider range of courses without anyone giving you a look. Same 88/12 poly-spandex blend as the Leopard Yellow, so the stretch and comfort are consistent. Pairs well with solid-color shorts and clean shoes.
Shop Wild Spots PoloThese are the shirts that make the group laugh before the round even starts. Good for casual rounds, scrambles, charity tournaments, or anyone who thinks the game should be fun first and serious second.
Every golfer lives for the hot dog at the turn and this polo is for that guy. Gets a reaction at every single round without fail. I've had customers tell me their group spent three holes debating whether to stop for hot dogs because of this shirt. Moisture-wicking, antimicrobial, full athletic fit. The performance specs are legit even if the design is not taking itself seriously at all.
Sweet in both senses of the word. The drip design is playful and the colorway is fun without being obnoxious. I wore one to a charity scramble and three different guys asked me about it before I finished the first hole. Soft 92% polyester blend, good stretch, flexible enough that your backswing isn't fighting the fabric.
Shop Ice Cream Drip PoloIf Notre Dame runs through your veins and golf is your second religion, this polo is mandatory. The design is clean and bold and the kind of thing that gets a nod from the right people before anyone even says a word. Relaxed fit, 88% polyester and 12% spandex, UPF 50, moisture-wicking. The structured collar keeps it looking sharp even when your scorecard doesn't.
Shop Fighting Irish PoloI did not expect this one to sell as well as it does and here we are. Every time a customer sends me a photo from the course someone in the group is pointing at it. The comic strip panels wrap the whole shirt and the quality from Pins and Aces is exactly what you'd expect from a brand that takes their headcovers seriously. SPF 45+, fast-wicking, wrinkle resistant, built-in sunglasses holder. An actual licensed-feel polo that happens to have turtles on it.
For the guy who golfs in the morning and fishes in the afternoon. The trout splatter print is exactly what it sounds like and it works in a way that makes you want to put it on immediately. Same Pins and Aces construction as the TMNT, SPF 45+, fast-wicking, wrinkle resistant, athletic fit. Customers who fish and golf have been buying two at a time.
Shop Trout Splatter PoloThe name alone is worth the price of admission. If you know, you know. If you don't, you're about to learn. Bogey Bros makes comfortable shirts and this one is no exception. 92% polyester and 8% spandex, tagless, UPF 50, moisture-wicking. Super stretchy and genuinely comfortable. The kind of polo that signals your whole vibe before you even pull the head cover off the driver.
Shop Big Duck Energy PoloThere's a type of golfer who wants everything he owns to be patriotic and this polo is made exactly for him. Red, white, and very much not quiet about it. 92% polyester and 8% spandex, tagless, UPF 50, moisture-wicking, athletic fit. Bogey Bros keeps the construction quality consistent across their whole line. Perfect for a Fourth of July scramble or any round where you want people to know exactly where you stand.
Shop 'Merica PoloGolf and gambling go together whether the scorecard admits it or not. Every group I've ever played with has some kind of money on the round. This polo leans into that tradition with a design that's confident and sharp rather than jokey. Walk in feeling like you're about to have a good round no matter what actually happens out there.
Shop Lucky Gambler Golf PoloKraken energy on a golf polo. The design is mythically cool, the kind of thing where you're not quite sure what you're looking at from across the fairway and then you get closer and you get it. Comfortable stretch fabric, wears well in warm weather, and stands out from every other black polo in the bag room. A good one for the creative type who plays golf.
Shop Paint Splatter Polo BlackLeopard print on a golf polo sounds like it shouldn't work and then you see someone wearing it and think, yeah, that tracks. The colors are bold without clashing and the groovy vibe of the pattern makes people smile when they see it. UPF 50+, full moisture management, 4-way stretch. Solid shirt underneath the fun design.
Shop Groovy Leopard PoloNavy and peach is an underused combination and this polo makes you wonder why. The color pairing is warm and fresh at the same time. Looks right at a morning round and still holds up at lunch on the patio. Full performance features, great sizing range. One of those that sits in the rotation for years because it just works with everything else.
Shop Groovin Navy and Peach Polo95% polyester, 5% spandex, slim fit with a 3-button placket and spread collar. Available in a wide range of patterns and the moisture-wicking fabric is quick-drying enough that you stop worrying about sweat about three holes in. A solid option when you want something with a little more polish than a novelty tee but still want to show some personality on the course.
Shop Playeah Men's Golf Polo80s flashes design on 100% polyester, which means it breathes well and dries fast. The Hawaiian retro vibe is the kind of bold that works anywhere from a casual round to a beach resort course. Button closure, quick-drying, easy to care for. A bunch of color options so you can pick the one that fits your bag. Good value for the look.
Shop Funny Hawaiian Golf PoloGummy bears on a polo is the kind of idea that sounds goofy until you actually see it and realize it's genuinely fun. The colors on this are bright and the 92% polyester and 8% spandex blend is soft and super stretchy. UPF 50+, moisture-wicking, athletic fit. It comes across lighthearted in all the right ways and the fabric quality is noticeably better than what you'd expect from a novelty shirt at this level.
Shop Gummy Bears PoloBirdie Boss makes polos with jaw-dropping 4-way stretch and this one is no different. The Splash Zone White is clean and bold at the same time, the kind of shirt that looks like a lot of thought went into it. Perforated poly spandex blend keeps airflow moving so you don't get that sticky feeling on a warm round. Athletic fit, swag and performance in the same package.
Shop Splash Zone Polo WhiteThe name alone gets a second look and the design delivers on the curiosity. Relaxed fit, lightweight 4-way stretch, 88% polyester and 12% spandex. The structured self-fabric collar keeps it looking sharp while the rest of the shirt is doing something completely unexpected. UPF 50, moisture-wicking. Good pick when you want something that's a little different from everything else on the rack.
Shop Egg Doodle PoloNamed after the best golf course drink that exists, and wearing it is basically a standing order to get one at the turn. Same relaxed lightweight build as the Egg Doodle with 88% polyester and 12% spandex, moisture-wicking, structured collar, UPF 50. If you're buying for a guy who takes his post-round drink as seriously as his short game, this one is going to land well.
Shop Transfusion Polo100% polyester, lightweight, breathable, and the price is hard to argue with. If you want a funny polo without committing to a big spend this one gets the job done. The humor is built right into the design and it tends to get a reaction from at least one person every round. Good pick when you're shopping for someone whose size you're not totally sure of.
Shop Funny Moisture-Wicking Golf PoloThe name tells you everything you need to know. If you've ever hit a lip-out from three feet and had thoughts that couldn't be said out loud at a family course, this polo captures that exact moment and puts it on a shirt. 92% polyester and 8% spandex, tagless, UPF 50, moisture-wicking, athletic fit. Bogey Bros construction is solid and the Raven colorway is dark enough to look sharp from a distance. Buy this one for yourself or for the guy in your group who doesn't need a reason to celebrate a birdie and definitely doesn't need a reason to express the other thing.
The Boom Town is the polo you wear when you want people to know you're there before you say a word. Bold print, premium build, the kind of shirt that splits the room right down the middle and the people who love it really love it. The 88% polyester and 12% spandex blend gives it a little more weight than a standard polo, which means it drapes better and holds its shape through a full round. Structured collar that actually stays sharp. Comes in S through XXXL.
Ikat is a dyeing technique that's been around for centuries and the pattern it produces is genuinely beautiful when done right. This one does it right. The abstract geometric print has depth that solid-color polos just can't compete with. All the usual performance specs, UPF 50+, moisture-wicking. The design does the heavy lifting and it does it well.
Shop Ikat PoloDark background with a daisy pattern is not what you'd expect to see at a golf course and that's exactly why it works. The contrast between the deep base color and the floral detail looks really good in photos and even better in person. UPF 50+, 4-way stretch, same premium build as the rest of the line. Different without trying too hard to be different, which is harder to pull off than it looks.

Tap Shop on any polo to buy.
After years of selling these and hearing back from customers about what actually worked and what didn't, here's what I tell people when they're trying to decide.
Groovy Golfer has been in the golf gear business for over 15 years. We hear from customers after they've actually used the product. Which shirts got asked about at the turn, which ones held up after a full season, and which ones ended up at the back of the closet after one round.
Every polo on this list has been worn by someone on our team, sits in our top sellers based on repeat orders and real reviews, or came with customer feedback I'd put my name behind. I'm Chris Bajda. I run this shop. I also play, and I'm picky about what goes on this list because if I recommend something that falls apart after three washes, you're going to remember that.
The Hot Dogs polo? We restock it constantly and it still sells faster than we expect every spring. The Pineapple Paradise? Customers come back and buy them as gifts after wearing their own. The Pink Palms at $25 surprised me when I first put it in the shop and it's been a steady seller ever since. That's the standard everything here has to meet.
